Setting levies every two years
Starting this year, we’ll be reviewing and consulting on ACC levies every two years – so you’ll have greater certainty about the levies you pay.
Earners' levy increasing
Everyone who earns an income in New Zealand pays an Earners’ levy. Because of an increase in claims and costs, we’re proposing a small increase to the levy rate.
Lower levies at the petrol pump
As a vehicle owner you pay Motor Vehicle levies every time you buy petrol at the pump, and when you pay license (rego) fees. We’re proposing a lower levy rate.
Decreasing your Work levy
All business owners, employers and anyone who is self-employed in New Zealand pay a Work levy. We’re proposing to lower the average levy rate.
New approach to workplace incentives
We’re developing a new approach to how we help New Zealand businesses create healthy and safe workplaces and reward them through their levies.
Paying less on your rego
How much you pay on your vehicle license (rego) fee depends on the type of vehicle you own. We’re proposing to lower most of the levy rates.
The motorcycle levy provides cover for motorcycle accidents, but it’s not enough to cover the cost of injuries – this is largely subsidised by other motorists. We want to help keep the balance right across all vehicle owners.
Updating vehicle risk rating bands
We calculate levy rates for most cars in New Zealand using vehicle risk rating bands. On behalf of the Minister of ACC, we're proposing to decrease the levy rates for all bands.
Keeping motorcyclists safe on our roads
On behalf of the Minister for ACC, we’re proposing to keep the Motorcycle Safety levy the same. This levy funds motorcycle road safety and injury prevention initiatives for motorcyclists.
We fund programmes and work closely with partners in the community to help reduce the number and severity of injuries whether at home, work or play.
Workplace health and safety incentives
We’re taking a new approach to helping New Zealand businesses create healthy and safer workplaces
