Too many New Zealanders continue to be injured or killed at work. Which is why we’re working in partnership with others to identify better ways to reduce serious injuries and fatalities in the workplace by at least 25%, by 2020.
We’ve met with over 500 businesses, advocacy groups and employees around the country to understand current realities, key needs and how we can do things better. The things we’ve learnt have shaped our proposed new approach: Phase 1: What we've learnt
Our new approach has led to some new product thinking. The products are not fully formed yet and we're still exploring the viability of some of the features. But we would like to give you a snapshot of where we're at and check we’re on the right track.
We’ll be seeking further feedback on more detailed proposals in mid 2018, and will let you know when this is happening.

Both products include these key changes to how things are at the moment:
These changes reflect a shift from a ‘compliance’ focus to an ‘outcomes’ focus, where injury prevention and its link to the levy you pay is well understood and all businesses invest in preventing injuries.
Our intention is to build on this initial set of products. For example, at a later stage, we might consider a product option aimed at businesses with more complex operating environments (eg multi-entity businesses).
Product A will be the default option for most businesses, regardless of their size and H&S maturity. It is also likely to be the best option for previous or existing Workplace Safety Discount and Workplace Safety Management Practices members.

‘One stop shop’ access to information on H&S best practice:
Enables your business to calculate the likely future levy impact, based on different actions.
View the performance of your business against that of your industry.
Keep up to date in (near) real time with key rehabilitation and claims management information, eg injury claims, cost information, medical certificate expiry dates, medical specialist appointments.
Ability to access different levels of a relationship management service, including:
Ensure your employees are receiving the necessary support around their rights with respect to injury prevention, rehabilitation and claims management.
