Sharing our thinking on Workplace Safety Incentives
Over the last year we’ve met with over 500 businesses to help identify better ways to help businesses like yours have healthier and safer workplaces. We’ve used the feedback to inform some changes to the way we do things. These proposed changes were included in our September 2018 levy consultation.
The changes represent a shift in focus from a strongly compliance-driven approach to one that:
- better reflects a business’ own health and safety performance
- provides direct assistance to make health and safety improvements
We have proposed simplification of our Experience Rating programme (for businesses paying more than $10,000 pa in work levies) to ensure the levy paid is more closely aligned to a business’ own health and safety performance, not the performance of others.
We are also introducing Injury Prevention Grants and Injury Prevention subsidies to work together with businesses and industry partners to improve health and safety.
